Labor and Delivery

Yesterday was roughly 2 years after Cassie was born. It was on a Sunday morning during a swim class for Lesley that Daria really started to feel contractions. We called Kathy our Doula when we got home, called our parents to come on up, and headed for the hospital. Just a few hours later Cassandra was born to two very proud parents. We had no idea that we'd be back in the hospital a few days later, and then back many more times again. It was so hard taking care of Cassandra with all of her medical problems, so much more labor. But it was a labor of love.

Wow Todd totally skimmed over everything with this post. We had everything lined up for Cassie's birth around the beginning of September. We had people who were going to look after Lesley and back up people in case we needed them. Dad assured me he would come up the second he heard I was in labor. Everything was going to be a breeze.... then Cassie decided to come early.
Sunday morning I went to the bathroom and had bloody show. I told Todd was was pretty sure that this was going to be the day. We were very excited when my contractions started a little later. But it was Lesley's last swim class of the session and we didn't want her to miss it so we packed up and went to the pool. I stayed on the side of the pool video taping and Todd and Lesley enjoyed class. I had about 5 contractions durring the 30 minute class but they weren't painful or anything. When we got home we started calling people. Dad was off camping in the Blue Ridge... no cell phone coverage. We couldn't get hold of the people who were going to help us with Lesley. It was crazy. We put Lesley down for her nap and called Kathy, our doula. Finally I called my boss and asked her to come over and watch Lesley. She couldn't believe I was in labor and that I wasn't freaking out. Dad finally called just to say Hi and got the "where the heck have you been, I'm in labor, get up here now" speech. When Lesley woke up from her nap my contractions slowed down. Kathy said it was because my body didn't want Lesley to get scared and that I would labor better at the hospital. We got Lesley settled in with my boss and headed off to the hospital. For the first time in his life Todd drove SLOWLY and totally ticked me off (it was not the first time he ticked me).
After laboring a few more hours my water broke all over Todd's shoes. I hopped on the bed and pushed one time and Cassie fell out. The doctor wasn't even gloved up yet and she thought I was having a bowel movement. Our Doula told her if she (the doctor) didn't catch it Kathy would. The doctor preformed an amazing basket catch with her gown and Cassie entered the world.
It was probably the easiest day of her life.
